Diploma of Hairdressing in Salon Management
Who is this course for?
This qualification is appropriate for those persons interested in acquiring additional finesse and skills working within a hairdressing salon. Where appropriate, apprenticeships may be offered.
Pre Requisites
There are no entry requirements into WRH50106 Diploma of Hairdressing Salon Management although holding Certificate III in hairdressing and or working in a hairdressing salon would be well regarded.
Students must be older than 18 years of age and be physically fit.

Delivery and assessment arrangements
Each participant attends regular training sessions as well as completing a number activities and projects between training sessions. The flexible, individualised delivery model includes:
• Pre-course skill self-assessment
• Appropriate dolls and wigs for test cutting and treatments
• Language, numeracy and literacy review
• Face-to-face training in small groups
• Role play of scenarios within the classroom
• Supervised demonstration of actual procedures and competencies in the classroom
• Delivery using learners guides and reviewing material prepared by students between training sessions
• Face-to-face training sessions
• Set reading materials
RPL may be provided for some units of assessment but this is not to exceed 50% of the course
Delivery Modes
This program will be delivered totally within an institution based environment and in a simulated workplace combining theory-based material and practical sessions involving small discussion groups, individual and team activities and role-playing.
Assessment Arrangements
The evidence gathered will be based upon a combination of self-paced study activities and projects and classroom based activities that will include role-playing, discussions, questioning and answering, workbook based activities, research projects, group activities and the application of skills and knowledge learnt through this program in the training and assessment materials developed and facilitated by participants.
Depending upon the individual participant's current employment situation a formal observation of practical training maybe undertaken within the workplace (if agreed by the assessor, participant and participants' employer). If this is not able to occur then the participant will be required to conduct a mini training session in the classroom situation.
Trainers
The trainer for this course is a well experienced and qualified trainer who has been training in other RTOs and now joins us in the City of Melbourne .
All trainers and assessors have access to:
• WRB05 Training Package
• Fully equipped clinical rooms
• Audio visual equipment and training videos on communication and occupational health and safety
• Whiteboard, resources for group activities, student workbooks, texts and handouts for occupational health and safety, industry associations, training packages, etc.
• Trainer Session plans
• Assessment tools and associated resources
• Student workbooks and associated resources
• Self assessment Recognition of Prior Learning Kit, qualified and practised trainer/assessors
Moderation of student outcomes
Various validation strategies ensure consistency between assessors during assessment, including the use of standard processes, materials and tools: assessment panels: direct supervision of new assessors; and to a lead assessor for questions/decisions.
Students that are deemed not yet competent are reviewed by a second assessor. A sample of those who are deemed competent is also reviewed to ensure consistency of assessment.

In completion of this course students will be provided with information on further education and work opportunities within the vocational education sector.
